Target For Today
Bombers Over the Reich, 1942 - 1945
Designer: Steve Dixon & Bob Best

TARGET FOR TODAY is a solitaire game that recreates American's Daylight Strategic Bombing Campaign against Nazi Occupied Europe during the Second World War. Considerable research, including review of many oral histories gathered from veterans who flew heavy bombers in the Daylight Strategic Bombing Campaign was done to make Target For Today! function as closely as possible to reality. The game was designed to provide YOU, the player with the ultimate gaming experience depicting the same types of events and decision making processes experienced by our veterans who flew the real-life missions.

Now, YOU are in command of an individual bomber on an individual mission over Hitler's Third Reich -flying either the B-17F or G Model Flying Fortress or the B24D, or J Model Liberator bomber. A series of individual missions are strung together in the campaign game to form the player's tour of duty. Just as it was in real life, the objective of the game for the player is to survive your tour of duty so you can rotate home.

The US Army Air Forces suffered one of the highest casualty rates of any branch of the military services including the US Marine Corps during World War II. The heavy bomber groups of the 8th Air Force flew a combined total of 10,631 strike missions over Europe during the period of this game. The 8th Air Force lost 4145 bombers on these missions. Surviving your tour of duty could be difficult!

TARGET FOR TODAY is an advanced update of Glen Frank's classic game B17, QUEEN OF THE SKIES. Some familiarity with that game is assumed, but "TARGET FOR TODAY" is a completely new game -you do not need to own B-17, QUEEN OF THE SKIES to play it. New tables are included and the rules are organized according to the sequence of play in any typical mission. TARGET FOR TODAY is designed so that each individual mission is fast and easy to play. The campaign game that comprises your tour of duty offers the player a game that is rich in detail, making the game as realistic as possible while still remaining playable.

    Beautifully Made Game

A great revisiting of the original AH game and a worthy stand-alone in its own right. If you have never played this before be prepared for an emotional roller coaster as your Aircraft and Crew literally fight for their lives in each and every mission; you will really get sucked into their story. The Game is beautifully made and presented, the graphic design work for the Tables/Charts books was a very nice touch. The counters are a nice weight to them and are well printed and cut. If i have any criticisms it is that the mission sheets could be optimised more, but this is not much of a gripe as it literally takes 5-10min to make your own through Word or Excel. Shipping to Australia was not a problem

I love this game! I played B-17 queen of the skies quite a bit. This game has more options with different planes, and what not. Really nice counters , and charts. A bit more complex than b-17, but the rulebook is laid out pretty concise. Easy to learn and fun to play; especially if you were a fan of the B-17 queen of the skies.

Exactly what I was looking for:

I have had Queen of the Skies since it came out all those long years ago. I expected Target for Today to take everything that we have learned in playing QotS and expand on it. The developers did exactly that. TfT gives the same feel but it adds so much more to the narrative. I am enmeshed in campaign one and on mission 5, I know the men flying my B-17. The constraints of the topic, flying a single B-17 over Europe, certainly limit choices. You are told the mission, the position of your plane in the formation, and you have to deal with what the Germans through up at you. Thus, this game does not present you with a lot of decisions but ones that are there are critical to the long term success of your plane. Who fires at what incoming fighter, can you develop aces to help preserve the plane's integrity, do you and when do you abort the mission are some of the the choices you make while living the results. I have truly enjoyed playing and writing the after action reports for Target for Today.

    Quick review; Target for Today

Posted by Irwin Sacks on Jun 25th 2017

At last the long-anticipated the "Target for Today" game has been published. Great looking graphic displays for the counters, charts and a nice 11 by 17 mounted map. The rules are well-organized and allow a nice flow for the use of the tables, targets and pilot manual booklets. These tables and charts layout the possible events that could occur during the mission, from flight to the target, to weather conditions, target determination, German defenses and mechanical failures. Similar to B-17 Queen of the Skies. A must-have for all air aficionados. I can't wait to get this game on my table to complete a mission.
